Charity Drive

Introduction
Business students often learn about business management or product marketing in a traditional classroom setting. Unfortunately, this pedagogical method suffers from a major drawback i.e. it does not provide students with the practical experiences that are equally important as their theoretical counterpart. As a consequence, the students’ mastery in these topics is superficial and unstimulating.

To address this shortcoming, this project will provide students with an opportunity to run a mock business venture and thereby gain the relevant practical experiences. In addition, it will also fulfil another learning objective i.e. to comprehend the social responsibilities of a business and how to discharge them effectively. For this last purpose, students will donate 100% of their profits from the project to the charitable organization of their choice.

Tasks:
a)     Form a group with maximum 5 members (with one member elected as the project leader).

b)     Decide what product(s) – physical or services – that your group will sell for the duration of    the project.

c)     Next, discuss which charity organization that your group would like to support i.e. donate all profits earned to it. It is useful to ask yourself these questions when considering part (c):
-        What cause would my group consider to be worthy or important?; and
-        Why is the cause worthy of our support?

d)     At the end of the project, you will submit a charity drive project report in softcopy form. This report documents and details all decisions made by the group as well as the results obtained.

e)     The report should not exceed 20 pages in length (excluding cover page, table of contents, references and appendices).

f)       The report must be supported by relevant documents e.g. receipts, videos, photos, donation cheques, sponsorship letters, etc. (Note: The receipt books must be submitted separately to a dropbox provided on the report submission date).

Report:

This was the most exciting project that I had been assigned to. Right from the start, our group are already dedicated about searching for sponsors, suppliers, etc. We always got rejected, then later we figured out maybe we are not trustable enough or we can just approach to them face-to-face, but concerning that we do not have any transportation, we decided to get things done without the help of sponsors, we will earn all the profit, but still one of our group member's parents are really kind hearted, they sponsored some of the money in order to loose a bit of our burden.

We searched for the best products sold out during these charity events, and later figure out, food are quite a good choice because everyone need to eat, we can just provide something light and refreshing, therefore I suggested these suppliers for our charity drive event which are, The Potong popsicles, Le Bread Days bread.or the bread, we got them from Le Bread Days in SS2, Petaling Jaya. We went there daily to get the fresh pastries by Sharon or Jack’s car as none of our member has a car, we are really blessed to have these friends to help out even though they are also busy for their stall. The popsicles and sodas are delivered directly to our campus by the supplier, The Potong on the first day of charity drive, they even rent us a freezer for free to store the popsicles and in the afternoon at day 5, they come over and collect back the freezer.

For this 5 days event, out group worked really hard to achieve our goal, it is really important to have all of them together, worked hard, stress together, then only we will have the passion and motivation to work together.

I personally thinks that this assignment taught me a lot of things, I do realize that teamwork are really important as I compare my group with the others, we might not be the best, we have minor arguments, but things carried out quite well. As a leader, I understand the burden because members might depends on you and most of the time, thinking and problem solving skills are required because you will never know what happen next, you must be prepared for everything. Communication skills are also really important in the way of introducing our objectives for this event, explanation of products and charity organization.
