Research Assignment

Task:

a)   Form a group with maximum 5/6 members (one member will be the group leader).

b)   Select 2 businesses within the same industry for research purposes.

c)    You will conduct preliminary research (via books, internet, newspaper, etc.) and gather background information on your chosen businesses before the interview.

d)    Prepare your interview questions carefully and please see your instructor to ensure that you are on the right track.  

e)    1 week prior to the interview, you will have contacted and obtain permission from the relevant persons (e.g. owner, manager) to conduct a face-to-face interview and on-site observations.

f)     Also, read the guidelines in the appendix section of this brief for further information on writing this research report.

g)   Each group will submit a 2500-3000-word report (excluding cover page and references) based on their chosen research area.

h)     Show your findings in a verbal presentation of 10-minute length.

First of all,our group held a few meetings and did some research on this assignment. Thinking that we were having a field trip to Penang Island, so we decided to choose Chinese traditional biscuits bakeries as our main idea because Penang and Klang Valley, both of these cities have all the bakeries that could be easily found. Then, we listed down a few possible choices of traditional biscuits bakeries in Penang Island together with their locations in order to know which was more convenient to us. 

At last, we chose Leong Chee Kee Biscuits Shops which is located in Penang and Fung Wong, which is located at Petaling Street, KL. These are the famous chinese traditional biscuits shops that we chose, in order to get to interview the person in charge, we contacted them to schedule the interview's time.

After the interview, we translated the whole interview into english because the interviews were  in chinese and cantonese, this made our work easier because report will be written in English. I learned to understand, analyze and compile the information together in order to present our researches to the others.

Communication and interpersonal skills is really important in this assignment because we are required to interview the person in charge, interpret and understand their questions in order to continue with the interview smoothly without any misunderstandings. 

To conclude, this assignment really sharpen my social skill and also data analyzing skill because we have conduct an interview and summarize the whole interview into a report.
