Display Unit

Introduction:
The aim of the Final Project will be a review that illustrates the entire topic learned in this course subject. Students will undergo a “design process” to help them visualize their idea and they will present it in a systematic manner with visuals, drawings, sketches, diagrams, models etc. In the Final Project student is required to design a display unit base on a given topic or an object and the observation obtained from their site study. The project will undergo a series of processes to produce sketches, diagrams, architectural drawings and study models to communicate ideas visually. Eventually student is required to produce a presentation board which summarised their display unit proposal.

Tasks:

Task 1: SCHEMATIC DESIGN
Objective: Proposed a Display Unit which suitable to the site context, the display function and the users’ experiences.

  • Select and/or consolidate initial design ideas by producing a schematic plan, elevation and section, and a study model 1:20.

Task 2: FINAL PRESENTATION

Objective: Developed sketches, orthogonal drawings and a presentation layout as a means of communication for the Display Unit
proposal.

  • Laying out the drawings into a presentation board and a final model 1:20.

When I was assigned to this project, I was overjoyed because it's time that we develop our skill in making a model, even though it's just a display unit, it already spend me a lot go time in thinking what materials should I choose to make it stable and at the same time how it can look more appealing.
I chose Picasso among all other options. I took some time to do some research about Picasso, figure it out and attend tutorial classes in order to get some ideas and opinions from our lecturers. There was once I was really lost because the concepts are all out but then I faced problem in building up my model, I used up a lot of time on it, but still it doesn't work. With the opinions and help from my friends, I decided to change the material and match the title of my display unit, from wires to PVC card.
Throughout this assignment, I really learned to be more positive because design is really subjective, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, therefore we can't force others to like anything they do not like, I can just try to improve and explains more about my concept. I feel a bit disappointed at the very first place, but then I am really satisfied with the final outcome, which sharpen our skills in presenting our own concept.
